Chapter 1: Beginning of the First Era
Marking the beginning of the First Era was the Day of Darkness. On this dreary day in the long history of the known ninja world, the Bijuu were created. A powerful sage, the creator of the ninja arts that had been spreading his teachings to the edges of the world, had defeated an evil being of pure chakra. Not much is known about this very early time period of the First Era, but scholars do know that prior to it, this huge chakra-fueled being had been terrorizing the world for centuries. He had wiped out hundreds of civilizations, forcing humanity to rebuild and adapt numerous times against their very wills, leaving ruins of ancient cities to dot the landscape for several millennia after. This powerful sage, the Shinobi Grand Master as his disciples began to call him, defeated and killed this magnificent being of chakra. After defeating him, he used an unknown jutsu to divide it into 9 smaller entities of chakra that would later be called the Bijuu. Each Bijuu would hold a different side of the personality of the Great Being, and all of them held an evil instinct of destruction inside of them, although it was less prominent in some of the Nine. These Nine Bijuu were sealed away each in a different large statue built to represent which animal they were. In this sealing, the Sage died through exhaustion several days after. After mourning their teacher’s death, his thousands of students divided and began to continue spreading his insight to the other civilizations. Throughout the next hundred years, his teachings of combat, of chakra, of peace, and of the jutsus had been learned and adopted by almost every civilization in the known world. Using their new knowledge, many of these “Enlightened” began to group together into large sectors, forming some of the villages we have come to know today. Others left the known world to explore what was beyond the borders, trying to continue spreading the works of the Grand Master to the very edges of the universe. Those who left were never heard from again. After the villages were settled, the people began to practice their new knowledge to ensure peace throughout the world, organizing it into provinces that each village would then rule over. This peace lasted for another two centuries until the beginning of the First Great War.
Chapter 2: The Bijuu’s Servant
Following the peace times of the early First Era was the First Great War, a war fought between the great villages for no other reasons than the simple hunger for power. An old cryptic man by the name of Eraia Uchiha, the father of the Uchiha clan, stumbled across something that would change the course of history forever. What he stumbled upon was no mere chance, as it was the hand of fate that guided him. He would begin the Uchiha’s dark legacy here, in a cave, in the middle of the Anghor mountain range. He had found the statue that had been sealed with the 9-tails, the Great Lion. At the moment when Eraia had first set eyes on the ornate statue, the Bijuu purged his mind like a virus might purge a feeble man. The pure maniacally destructive power of the 9-Tails and the evil intuition of the Uchiha mixed together perfectly, like wind fanning a forest fire. The Lion began to speak to Eraia through his mind, coaxing him into his own puppet, slowly setting his master plan into motion. The strength of the elderly man alone, even if he was an experienced Uchiha, was not enough to break the statue to set him free. He needed the power of thousands in order to do that, but there was only one way to do that. The 9-Tails shared with him a vision of paradise, in which the Uchiha clan would rule the world. The man began to be driven, obsessed to the point of insanity. He slaved over the tasks the Great Lion bestowed upon him in hopes that in releasing the Bijuu the vision would become a reality. The 9-Tailed Demon corrupted the minds of hundreds through this one man. Using his Sharingan he hypnotized many men, brainwashing them to worship the 9-Tails as a god and join his fervent cause. Using his force of about one-hundred, he set the next stage of the plan into motion. His group of worshippers, collectively called the Raksaka, began terrorizing the villages. They would stage murders, coups, and would spread propaganda, only to be blamed on other villages. These tactics began to divide the world into two halves, growing ever so slowly to hate one another. One leading officer of the Raksaka would take control of one of these halves. Before long he would be appointed Emperor, and his loyal subjects and provinces would be his Empire. The Raksaka would continue to work in secrecy, their presence hidden from the world of men, and their inside members of the Empire would secure their aliases as hidden as well, including the Empire. The Rebellion, which is what the opposing side would adapt as their title, began striking out against the Empire for the crimes in which they thought they had committed. When they struck out, the Empire struck back with an iron fist, and thus began the First Great War.
Chapter 3: The First Great War; End of the First Era
The War would ensue for the next 86 years, consuming the once peaceful world of shinobi. Following the beginning of the war, the old man known as Eraia Uchiha would confront the leaders of the Rebellion, who had not yet known of his identity. He spoke to them of a great power, the 9-Tails Bijuu, that if unleashed could be controlled to ensure victory in the war. The Kōrikage, the Kage of the Tundra Province who was the current leader of the Rebellion, would happily agree to this idea. He sent half of his large army to make sure the Bijuu was successfully caught after they unleashed him. When the old man finally helped them reach the cave, he instructed them on a forbidden jutsu to use to break the seal containing the Lion in the statue. The shinobi soldiers directed this jutsu at the statue, and the Bijuu was broken free. Instantly, he slew the thousands of soldiers. And when Eraia bowed to the ground, the man who thought he would be given the world, the Lion ate him in one bite. The 9-Tailed Lion would then quickly travel to the other statues of the Bijuu, and would break them all free. He did not necessarily enjoy the company of the other Bijuu, but he would need to use them as pawns. He used this war to unleash his power, and he now had no further use for it. He would need to end the war, and the other 8 Bijuu would help. The smaller powered Bijuu would begin spreading havok throughout the world in each side of the war. They killed hundreds, innocents as often as soldiers. This forced the leaders of both sides to act hastily in order to focus more attention on quelling the Bijuu. But the Lion had predicted their next move. Instead of setting aside their differences and conjoining to repel the tailed demons, their lust for power inclined them to instead hurry to win the war before working on the issue. In that occasion, the winner would then force the loser to aid in the Bijuu capturing. So the two sides gathered their entire armies to fight one another in an area in between the Anghor Mountains and a small village named Elkwood in a nuetral territory. The Nine Tails had been waiting for them there. In an act of raw power, the Bijuu divided the earth into what seemed to be two separate halves, and sunk both massive armies and their commanders into the what seemed to be a bottomless pit below. He had killed hundreds of thousands of men in one fell attack, thus ending the war. Both sides now lacked leaders, and both lacked armies. What the Nine Tailed Lion didn't anticipate was the energy required for such a feat. He had grown exhausted from the exertion, and entered a deep sleep that he would remain in all the way through present times a couple thousand years later. The Empire would begin rebuilding, and the nations of the Rebellion would declare their independence, as well as allegiance to one another, and do the same. A time of tension would begin now. A time of tension, but a time of peace.
Chapter 4: A Cold Peace; The Second Era
The time throughout the Second Era was rather peaceful, but peace was not the only purpose it served. This Era was the longest, lasting nearly 2,000 years. Spotted with small wars and battles between the rebellion, the First Great War was long forgotten as well as the cause for the war starting. Each side, every hundred years or so, would come up with a new reason to be belligerent towards the opposite side, sparking some new feud or other. These 2,000 years were filled with a constant fear on both sides regarding when the other would strike out at them, but it was in fact generally peaceful. Both the Rebellion and the Empire strengthened their military and advanced technology, waiting for a spark to the keg they had created. For this long Era, no such spark emerged. There simply was no cause for war, and therefore no war started. The most that could be used against either side was either the small grudges each side hold, or perhaps simply the fact that the First War never really ended. Both sides were defeated, no treaty was signed, no one
won the war. Even so, the hidden village of the Underground, remained undetected. They closed trade as soon as the war ended, erased their name from the map, and simply hid. Pure isolation. Isolation in waiting. This means that it was the Village Hidden in the Depths, in the Ice, in the Steam, in the Forest, and in the Dunes that continued the tension. The Underground simply wanted no part in the increased tension of the world. This was odd, seeing as though the Underground became a huge power in the First Great War. They simply disappeared for 2,000 years, their location unknown except to its inhabitants. Also during this time, the 8 Bijuu that had been released so long ago settled into homes. They had never been sealed, and the Nine-Tails had disappeared, so they simply began to live their own lives in the world of men. All of them settled away from civilization, far from prying eyes. The Raksaka during this time disappeared as well. Not one trace of them existed, as their leader had been slain and their idol vanished. Their idol had tricked them. What was their purpose now anyway? Why should they stay around? It was this that started the Raksaka up again during the very end of this Era. They were fueled by revenge, now wanting not to serve the Nine-Tails, but to use it. The ideals were completely reversed. At first, their beliefs were just empty threats. They were fanatics that no one listened to, preaching on about things that had become simply myths over time in the people's minds. No one knows who started them back up, but they were the cause of the Second Era ending, the cause of the Second Great War. The thing is, no one knows how or why except the Raksaka themselves.
Chapter 5: The Third Era
The Third Era began just twenty-one years ago when the Second Great War began to unfold. The Empire, for unknown means, finally lashed out against the Rebellion, which was less of a Rebellion and more of a confederation. In one large raid, the Empire sacked the village hidden in the Ice. Thousands died, but the village held its own long enough for the Empire to recede to recollect itself. In the time period, the Underground made its comeback. Allying with the Village Hidden in the Depths, they assaulted Jokigakure, and nearly completely destroyed it. Right before they had destroyed it, they left. They did not want Jokigakure in their clutches, they simply wanted to make a statement. They were not to be taken lightly. The loss at Jokigakure for the Empire, and the loss in the Ice for the Rebellion signified two things. The Empire wanted more land, more power. And the Rebellion was not willing to quietly let that happen. Peace by control, and peace by freedom. Both sides fought for the same end, but they fought with different means to achieve them.
So now, the war has progressed but has not wavered or faulted in any way. The Raksaka continue to work int he background to gain their goals, but others rise up to stand in their way. The Empire seeks to secure the world under one banner, the united villages of the Rebellion seek freedom, but allegiance, for each village. Who will win? Who will lose?
